Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, was died in a car crash close to Mumbai’s financial district, according to Indian authorities.
In a boardroom takeover in 2016, Mistry was fired as chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the $300 billion Tata conglomerate, which produces everything from salt to software. This led to a drawn-out legal dispute, in which the top court of India ultimately ruled in favor of Tata Group.

An Irish businessman of Indian descent named Cyrus Pallonji Mistry became well-known when Ratan Tata chose him to take over Tata Sons in 2012. Due to his involvement with Shapoorji Palonji Group, Tata Sons’ largest shareholder, he was nominated to serve as chairman.
After Cyrus Mistry was fired as chairman, he got into a fight with Tatas, which shocked the business community.

On Sunday afternoon, the tragedy happened in Palghar, which is 62 miles north of Mumbai. B Patil, the top police official in the Palghar district, claimed that Mistry and three other people were traveling from Gujarat to Mumbai.
According to a top Mumbai police official, Mistry died at the scene when his car collided with a divider.
Many well-known politicians and businesses tweeted their condolences after learning of Mistry’s passing. According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mistry’s passing came as a shock and was unexpected.
He was a smart businessman who thought India could prosper economically. The worlds of business and industry have significantly suffered since his passing, Modi said.
According to a statement from TCS, “He was a warm, courteous, and cheerful person who created a solid relationship with the TCS family during his term as the company chairman.”
Cyrus Mistry served as the second non-Tata chairman and the group’s sixth chairman since the conglomerate’s founding more than 150 years ago. Cyrus also belonged to the Mistry business dynasty, which founded the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and was well recognised for its close relations to the Tatas. Mistrys’ father, Irish-born millionaire industrialist Pallonji Mistry, passed away in June of this year at 93.
