More about Time100 Next
TIME100 Next highlights the 100 up-and-coming leaders shaping the future of commerce, politics, health, entertainment, activism, sports, and more. Despite his aristocratic background, Akash Ambani has always been expected to succeed in business. However, TIME reports that he has been hard at work.
Who is Akash Ambani?
Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani son Akash Ambani was appointed chairman of Jio in June, making it the largest telecom operator in India with more than 426 million subscribers. He joined the board of directors for Jio in 2014. Since then, he has played a vital role in convincing Google and Facebook to make billion-dollar investments. If he effectively runs Jio, TIME wrote, “He might get a shot at bigger pieces of the family business.”
Akash has been instrumental in the innovative and inclusive growth strategy implemented by the consumer retail and digital services divisions of the Reliance Group. His current work drives the digital, highly inclusive creation of the convergence dividend across all socioeconomic strata for more than 500 million consumers.
Akash Ambani Chosen as Emerging Leader
TIME magazine releases TIME100 Next each year, a list modelled after its flagship TIME100 that honours 100 up-and-coming stars from around the world. According to reports, Akash Ambani is the only Indian on the list.
Being a prominent Indian industrialist’s ancestor, Akash Ambani was expected to flourish in business. However, he has been working hard. After being controversially given a board seat at the age of 22, Ambani was appointed to chairman of Jio, India’s largest telecom firm with over 426 million subscribers, in June.
Since then, he has been instrumental in securing multibillion-dollar investments from Facebook and Google. He might be offered a shot at larger portions of the family’s business if he manages Jio well, according to the Time 100 Next feature.
Besides Akash Ambani, the list also includes the Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, the American singer SZA, the actress Sydney Sweeney, the basketball player Ja Morant, the actor and media personality Keke Palmer, and the environmentalist Farwiza Farhan
