The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and leader of the Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away on 10th October. The 82-year-old veteran lawmaker passed away while being treated at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, where he had been a patient for a few days. In a tweet, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, confirmed the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the party’s founder.
Who is Mulayam Singh Yadav?
One of Uttar Pradesh’s most well-known politicians, Mulayam Singh Yadav, held dual positions as India’s defence minister and the state’s three-time chief minister. He was elected seven times to the Lok Sabha and ten times to the assembly.
Yadav, born on November 22, 1939, was a prominent Indian politician and the Samajwadi Party’s founder. During his time in Lok Sabha, he represented Mainpuri. The former wrestler became well-known in UP politics during the significant social and political turmoil that followed the 1970s. Yadav, affectionately referred to by his fans as “Netaji,” or a respected leader was elected chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second time in 1993.
Mulayam rapidly became well-known as a socialist leader and occupied a significant portion of the political space left by Congress. He assumed office as Uttar Pradesh’s 15th chief minister in 1989, the year the Congress was forced from power and has since been unable to retake the state’s reins.
Mulayam Singh Yadav as a Leader of the Samajwadi Party
His political career can be divided into two periods: before he founded the Samajwadi Party (from 1967 to 1992) and the following (1992-to date).
He was trained by seasoned leaders like former PM Charan Singh, Ram Manohar Lohia, and Raj Narain before the advent of SP. He did, however, participate in several political parties that developed and vanished then.
One of the prominent leaders of Uttar Pradesh, Yadav, was referred to by Samajwadi Party members as Netaji. He later served three terms as chief minister of the nation’s most populous state.

On 10th October at 8:16 a.m. Yadav, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh died. Mulayam Singh Yadav age was 82. According to claims made by the hospital, he received life-saving medication while in severe condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Medanta Hospital.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was very ill and taking medications to prolong his life. A multidisciplinary team of doctors was caring for him in the hospital’s ICU, according to Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Medical Director at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on Yadav’s passing and noted that he had a remarkable personality and was well-known for being a steady leader. Mulayam Singh Yadav had been undergoing treatment for standard medical examinations and screenings since August 22. Last week, his health quickly deteriorated, so he was brought into the ICU at Medanta Hospital.
Mulayam Singh Yadav‘s political graph had several crests and troughs, from being a part of various small parties that emerged during a contentious period of Indian politics to forging unexpected coalitions. As a tribute to Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared a three-day state of mourning.
