    Sony Buys Game Developer Of Destiny Game Bungie for $3.6 Billion

    Sony has always acquired video game studios and amongst them, buying Bungie is perhaps the largest. They are the game developers of the much-acclaimed Destiny video game. Destiny 2 is now doing the rounds. In this write-up, let us find out more about Sony’s acquisition of the game developer with a glimpse of the Destiny 2 game. 

    Sony’s destiny slated to improve the brand

    Sony Group Corp is buying Bungie Inc, the game developer in the United States, the game developer of Destiny and Halo franchises, for as much as $3.6 billion to enhance its portfolio of video game studios. 

    The deal was announced by Sony Interactive Entertainment on Monday, and is this makes it the third video game acquisition this month. The deal follows on close heels of Microsoft Corp buying out Activision Blizzard Inc for a whopping $69 billion just two weeks apart.     Purchasing Bungie will make Sony one of the most-sought after first-person shooter games that has the potential to rub shoulders with the Call of Duty series, which Sony’s competitors now is the owner through Activision. 

    Following the announcement, shares of Sony surged by as much as 2.6% in Tokyo while trading was on in Tokyo on Tuesday morning. 

    Microsoft plans to release the next three Call of Duty games on platforms like Sony PlayStation. However, Microsoft could also plan to take the series on its Xbox console or Windows computers. But Sony has clarified that Destiny 2 and subsequent title games will not be made available on PlayStation platforms.

    Destiny 2 is also known to players as Destiny 2- New Light. You can play this game for free, and it is available only online and is a “multiplayer first-person shooter” game on the video, developed by Bungie as mentioned above. 

    Sales of Destiny 2

    This game sold for as many as 50,263 copies within the first week of PlayStation 4. This promptly put the game on top of the weekly sales chart, and the UK’s sales chart was on top for the week of September 23. 

    As far as Destiny 2 download is concerned, the digital download for this game accounted for more than half of the sales. 

    It may be mentioned here that Destiny does not work the same way as the other franchises. According to Bungie, this game is very popular, with more than 20 million players attracted to it. 

    Once the deal ends, Bungie will operate as an independent subsidiary of SIE or Sony Interactive Entertainment. The Destiny 2 price transaction will include employee incentives, adjustments, and other working capital.
