Students from ARIES will soon be able to take part in joint Ph.D. programs thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding that IIT Roorkee and ARIES signed, and students from IIT Roorkee will be able to conduct projects on the ongoing activities at ARIES by using several of the institute’s current and future facilities. An agreement has been made to work together academically in areas of shared interest.

What is Aries?
According to a press release from the Press Information Bureau, Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) is a renowned research institute focusing on solar physics, atmospheric sciences, and observational astronomy and astrophysics.
Solar, stellar, planetary, galactic, and extragalactic astronomy, including stellar variabilities, star clusters, X-ray binaries, nearby galaxies, and inherently transient events like supernovae and highly energetic gamma-ray bursts, is the leading research interest of the Astrophysics division & Astronomy.
What is Covered Under the Mou?
- This Memorandum of Understanding will encourage collaboration and support knowledge advancement on the principles of reciprocity, best effort, mutual benefit, and regular exchanges.
- Both institutes will collaborate to sponsor research, development, and consulting for this MoU.
- It has also been decided to expand the exchange of academics, scientists, and students as well as the exchange of scientific and technological information.
- The two schools will also hold collaborative conferences, workshops, and short-term courses.
What Aims Does the Mou Have?
According to AIRES Director Dipankar Banerjee, ARIES will arrange to host scientific equipment from IIT Roorkee for the mutual benefit of the faculty and students at both universities.
The partnership’s goal according to IIT Roorkee Director Ajit K. Chaturvedi, the partnership aims to bring ARIES and IIT Roorkee Ph.D. researchers closer together so they may leverage their complementary skills to work on challenging scientific and technical issues.
IIT Roorkee and ARIES Both institutions have pledged to collaborate on research, development, consulting, student, professor, and scientist exchanges, joint conferences, workshops, and short-term courses.
