Kia Sonet: Redefining the Compact SUV Segment

By the end of the holiday season, the Kia Sonet SUV is expected to receive an enormous response. There were early indications of success on Day 1. It’s always enjoyable to drive an automobile of one’s choosing, appreciate its virtues, and point out its shortcomings.

Over the past two years, there have been significant changes in the compact SUV market. The introduction of the second-generation Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger, among other models, has entirely altered consumer perceptions of what a value-for-money package looks like.

    How Much Does It Cost?

The Kia Sonet price for base model is Rs. 7.79 Lakh in India. The top Sonet diesel model costs Rs. 9.95 lakh and can go up to Rs. 14.89 lakh. And the top Sonet petrol model costs up to Rs. 13.89 lakh. In addition, Sonet’s automatic pricing starts at Rs. 9.95 lakh and comes with 19 options. It is available in 22 color variations.

    Design of the Kia Sonet

Excessive branding, social media posts, and review reports ensured you had previously seen the newest B-SUV available. That shouldn’t alter anytime soon if you don’t love the appearance. Incidentally, Sonet’s alter ego, Venue, will be its toughest wager. You can tell with just one glance how aggressive Sonet is regarding Venue. If you’re impressed with Sonet, the family tiger-nose grille, the jewel-shaped LED daytime running lights, and the strong lines on the bonnet may seem excessive. Sonet and Venue have the same length and wheelbase, but Sonet is somewhat wider taller, and has more ground clearance and cargo space. On the other hand, Sonet lags behind XUV300 in the SUV pool.

    Which Engine Should You Choose?

The segment-first automatic with the 1.5-liter diesel engine is Kia’s differentiator in the Sonet. Driving in cities is a breeze because of the engine’s high torque in the midrange and polished performance. If you wanted to save money on your fuel bill at the end of the month, you would go with a diesel. Although 24 km/l is claimed, regular driving will only yield about 18.

As with all of its models released in India thus far, Kia has considered the Sonet’s feature list, resulting in one of the best-equipped SUVs and even more equipped than some vehicles in the above class. One of the class’s biggest and most responsive devices is the 10.25-inch touchscreen entertainment system with integrated navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and linked car technologies.

The multimedia screen and a small display in the center console allow you to watch the air purifier.

The top-spec trim has additional features like an integrated air purifier, mood lighting connected to the sound system, a high-end Bose sound system with seven speakers, and a boot-mounted subwoofer that produces excellent audio quality. This conveniently located wireless charger can hold even larger phones, seat ventilation, automatic climate control, automatic headlights, and an electric sunroof.

Kia has prioritized safety more recently, as evidenced by the Sonet’s new standard installation of four airbags on all model levels. In addition, the top-spec model has six airbags, projector fog lights, ABS, ESP, a tyre pressure monitor, rear parking cameras, front parking sensors, and rear parking sensors.

    Final Words

Kia Sonet moves with a relaxed, carefree demeanour. But it doesn’t mean SUVs aren’t quick. The ride is pleasant and supple, thanks to Kia experts’ excellent suspension tuning work. Sonet attempts to keep jerks at bay at moderately high speeds while most undulations are smoothed at low rates. The handling, though, is underwhelming. The Sonet and Seltos share a steering wheel, but the lighter vehicle lessens the excitement of the turbo-petrol engine.
