The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeITY) recently announced a new range of rules and regulations regarding OTT platforms, digital media, and social media platforms. While announcing the new rules regarding social media platforms, Ravi Shankar Prasad, MeITY minister, stated in the press conference,
“We have not framed any new law. We have framed these rules under the existing IT Act. We are trusting the platforms to follow these regulations. The focus of this guideline is on self-regulation. Social media platforms upon being asked either by a court order or a Govt. authority will be required to disclose the first originator of mischievous tweet or message as the case may be.”
The main moto of the statement of Prasad is to declare that the government wants OTT platforms, digital media, and social media platforms to acquaint with a mechanism for improved verification of users. While announcing all these statements and the new rules, Union Minister also stated the rapidly increased rate of WhatsApp use. Union Minister revealed that now WhatsApp is one of the top social media platforms that have over 53 crores users. And after that comes YouTube, which has about 44.8 crores users in India. And one of the fascinating factors is that currently, WhatsApp has been used widely for industrial purposes.
Why do people use this much WhatsApp?
WhatsApp chat is a trendy and convenient way to connect with friends and family. Chat messages are typically deleted after the chat has ended, meaning these messages are not archived on your phone. This can be both a good thing (as you don’t have to worry about every embarrassing message being saved for eternity) and a bad thing (you have no way to retrieve any of your old messages if you’ve accidentally deleted them). It’s important to remember that WhatsApp chat only stores the most recent version of each message. The inability to access old messages can become inconvenient when you need to reference an event or conversation from several chats ago.

Interestingly, WhatsApp has another side that isn’t as widely known. WhatsApp can also be used to promote your business, stay in touch with customers, and more. WhatsApp has been dominating the communication world for some time now. It is used by over a billion people every day, and that number keeps increasing. This mobile messaging app has been seen as a viable alternative to phone calls, emails, and text messages because it’s cheap and easy to use. With its high usage rates, some consider it to be a potential threat to the traditional ways of communicating.
