Nokia was founded in 1865 by Fredrik Idestam, a Finnish investor. The company began as a wood-pulp mill but later expanded into rubber manufacturing and electronics. It made its first international expansion in the 1950s by establishing factories throughout the world. Nokia’s first cell phone came out in 1994 and was called Mobira Cityman 900; it could only be used to make phone calls, not send text messages or take pictures. Nokia’s headquarters are located in Espoo, Finland.
